An adjustment is a treatment done by hand on the spine and other joints in the body. It involves moving an unaligned or restricted joint using a quick, high velocity thrust. Spinal adjustments are an authorized Act in Ontario, requiring a high degree if skill, and only a few professions (including chiropractors) are legally allowed to perform this act.
When treating infants and children, the chiropractic technique applied is far gentler to adapt to their developing spines. The contact used are my finger or one hand and gentle sustained pressure equivalent to light pressure on a tomato’s skin or eyeball is applied to the misaligned area.
Like adjustments, mobilizations aim to improve movement or restore alignment of a joint, but using a slower, oscillating movement to the joint.
